How to care for nails after removing gel polish
Share
You’ve just removed your gel polish and your nails feel thin, soft or ridged. That’s normal. With this care, you’ll get them back in a few weeks.
Why they’re weakened
The pre-filing and the acetone removal dry out the nail. It’s not permanent damage, but it does need TLC to return to its state.
Recovery plan
1. Moisturise fully
Cuticle oil several times a day and hand cream. This is the most important part.
2. Give them a break
Avoid going straight back to gel polish. If you want colour, go for a pen nail polish, which needs no filing or aggressive removal.
3. Protect
Gloves for water and chemicals.
4. File gently
In one direction, to slow down peeling.
5. Use a base coat
A base coat protects while the nail recovers and gives a neat finish.
Colour without punishing the nail
While it recovers, the pen format lets you wear colour without adding damage. Discover the Velynails pen nail polishes.
